A Buyers Guide To Waders

Waders

Waders are an essential part of kit for many types of angling. There are so many different types available it can be difficult to choose. The 2024 season has saw the breathable wader become very popular.

Materials

PVC: Cheapest and most durable material and great for the cold and wet weather we are used to here. The downside is that they will get very hot & sweaty in the summer.

Neoprene: Once the most popular, this thick and warm insulating material is still used by anglers looking for very warm waders for cold weather fishing. The sock areas of most foot type waders are still made of neoprene.

Breathable: The only and best choice for summer use. Thin, light yet durable material that allows comfort all day.

Boots

PVC Boots: Similar to Wellington Boots, they are easy to get on and off, while maintaining grip in slippery and muddy conditions.

Stocking Foot: The stocking foot wader requires a separate wading shoe. Take a little time to get on and off you will need to wear them under a bib and brace when it rains.

Types

Thigh: The traditional kind of waders. Easy on and off, you’ll need to wear them under a bib and brace when it rains.

Waist: These waders are like trousers and are comfortable and unrestrictive in the summer months.

Chest: The most popular type of wader, look like a bib and brace allowing you to wade into deeper water than waist and thigh waders, keeping you dry and fully sealed in the wettest of weather.
