The Golden Pheasant Complete Head is the head area of the Golden Pheasant that has the crest and tippet feathers. The crest feathers and tippet feathers are hugely popular when it comes to Salmon fly tying. The head is available in grade 1 or grade 2 quality.
The yellow crest feathers are bright in colour and delicate with a fine structure. This kind of feather is particularly used for Salmon fly patterns and creating tails and toppings.
The tippet feathers are used in pairs for wings on Salmon fly patterns and can be tail material and underwings in Wet Trout fly tying as well. These feathers are bright orange with black defined markings and come in a variety of sizes, making it ideal for many different patterns.
The Complete Head Grade 1 has feathers with very high quality barbs and smaller barbs which are more appropriate when tying smaller size flies. The Grade 1 head is approx 16cm in Length x 10cm in Width and is excellent value for money as they contain a large number of usable crest feathers and a vast amount of tippet feathers.
The Complete Head Grade 2 has feathers that are very similar quality to Grade 1 and can be seen as a low cost alternative option. The head is smaller in size and still manages to provide plenty of feathers for fly tying. The crest feathers are slightly shorter and the tippet feathers are a little lighter in their colour compared to Grade 1. The Grade 2 head is approx 14cm in Length x 6.5cm in Width. For a low cost alternative, this is good value for money as it contains a large number of usable crest feathers and tippet feathers.
Common Fly patterns that are usually tied with Golden Pheasant Crest Feathers are the Kate McLaren, the Silver Stoat and the Watson JC.
Common Fly patterns that are tied with Golden Pheasant Tippet Feathers are flies such as the Black Kee Hee, the Bumble Sooty Olive and the Peter Ross.
